PE & SPORTS PREMIUM

2023 - 2024 Sports Premium Funding Strategy

Physical Education (PE), at Bardwell CofE Primary School, is an integral aspect of school life. A fundamental aim within our school is to encourage every pupil to participate fully in PE lessons as well as developing a love and enjoyment of being physically active. Pupils in KS1 and KS2 all receive a minimum of 90-120 minutes of timetabled physical education every week.

Pupils within both key stages are given the opportunity to take part in a range of extra-curricular PE activities before and after school including a FREE 'Breakfast Club (Monday to Friday) and a range of extracurricular activities such as gymnastics, dance, football, basketball, multi-sports, athletics, dodgeball, and dance. Please click, here, to see this term's 'Early Help' Club offer.

We are proud to offer a high-quality PE teaching (via a specialist Enrichment Leader and fully trained staff), pupil-led intra sports competitions (using House Sports Captains), inter sports competitions (with local schools in the Gipping Valley School Sports Partnership), a weekly Wednesday 'Get Active' PE assembly; a weekly 'Monday Mile',  a 'Take home' sports bag initiative, regular professional athlete visits (our most recent being football freestyler Jamie Knight) and swimming expertise from our swimming instructor/ Enrichment Leader.

PE and School Sports Funding

The government is determined to ensure a lasting legacy where children will become physically active and have the skills, knowledge, and motivation necessary to equip them for an active, healthy lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport. In order for this to happen and to improve the provision of sport and Physical Education (PE) in primary schools, a large amount of funding has been put in place over the last three years.

In our school, this funding has totalled £16,000 plus £10.00 per pupil for this academic year.

The funding will be used to show improvements within 5 key areas:

  • The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity - kick-starting healthy active lifestyles;

  • The profile of PE and sport being raised across the school as a tool for whole-school improvement;

  • Increased confidence, knowledge, and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport;

  • Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils;

  • Increased participation in competitive sport.
